I want to break up the travel posts with a really simple smoothie recipe that I’ve been into lately. And when I say that I’ve “been into it”, I mean that drinking daily smoothies is the only way I can feel good about how much pasta I ate over the last 3 weeks.
I really love smoothies because you can pack so much raw fruit & veg nutrition into them, and they are the perfect morning boost if you aren’t someone who wakes up super hungry but you still want something to sustain you until lunch. Plus, with this insane summer weather we’ve been having here in California, these cold drinks are SO REFRESHING!
I usually do some variation on this recipe depending on what fruit I have lying around. Freezing ripe fruit is a great way to extend its shelf life, so I almost always have something frozen on hand, as well as plenty of ripe bananas, and of course, coconut water on standby.
This isn’t so much of a recipe as it is a suggested combination of ingredients you can throw into a blender together. I’ll be sure to post more of my favorite fruit combos, so stay tuned, but in the meantime, feel free to be creative!
Makes 1 large or 2 small servings
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 fresh orange
- 1 giant handful spinach
- ¾ cup frozen blackberries
- 1 cup coconut water
- 1 tbsp whey protein powder
Combine all ingredients in a powerful blender and whirl until smooth. Boom!
